Carnal Moon
Nick glanced over his shoulder when Ambrose entered the living room. As usual, his face held a placid expression, but his bottomless eyes were full of curiosity. Unlike his counterparts, he disliked tee shirts and instead wore a navy polo and black slacks. Though he sported shoes, his footsteps were silent on the hardwood floor.
“Our boy is growing up,” Gabe grinned. “Nicholas found a mate.”
“Indeed?” Ambrose took a seat in the leather recliner catty corner to Nick and across from Gabe.
“However, we’ve only had one date. Gwen may decide to not see me anymore. Don’t assume this is a done deal.” Although the words didn’t ring true even to himself, Nick knew what all this meant; he simply wasn’t ready to accept it. Or believe in it.
“Oh, she can detect his scent,” Gabe added helpfully. “And Nick hasn’t bitten her. Don’t want that detail left out.” He smiled angelically as Nick glared at him.
Ambrose inclined his head. “I should hope not.”
“Until Gwen tells me what she wants to do, I’m not doing jack,” Nick stated. Except from the way she returned his kisses and wanted him to come back, the decision may have already been made.
Ambrose sniffed the air. “Her scent is on you; it must be have been difficult to not taste her.”
Nick rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Like you wouldn’t believe.” He glanced up at Ambrose. “And what’s your experience with this Bond bullshit?”
A stillness came over the ancient vampire. “I have been in your position. Felt the burning desire one particular woman causes. And the torment of her ripped away, leaving only emptiness inside. That is a fate I would keep from you.”
