Carnal Moon
“Thank you so much for bringing me here,” Gwen said, her eyes fluttering around the dimly-lit room.
Nick inclined his head. “My pleasure.”
Diane reappeared with a full wine glass then quickly disappeared again.
“You didn’t have to kill anybody to get this room, did you?” Gwen took a sip of wine, her hand lightly shaking. She felt tempted to down the whole thing in one gulp. A bottle may be needed to calm her nerves.
Nick laughed. “No. I know people who know people, that sort of thing.”
Did Nick’s canines appear longer than normal? “Just checking.” Gwen forced herself to not stare at Nick’s mouth to find out. He reclined in his chair with a crossed leg, an arm casually draped across the back of the chair next to him. His jacket lay open, revealing a tailored vest that hugged his body. Without trying, Nick was sexy. And the way his seductive blue eyes subtly luminesced in the diffuse lighting made her breath quicken.
“You look stunning tonight, by the way,” Nick commented, his gaze never straying from Gwen.
She absently tucked a wisp of hair behind an ear as she modestly smiled. “I can say the same of you. I think a fashion magazine is looking for you somewhere.”
“Are you flirting with me, Miss Waters?” Nick wore an expression of amusement.
Gwen sighed. “I don’t have the skills to do that.”
Nick raised eyebrow. “Don’t be so sure. Perhaps you should try more.” A wicked smile curved his lips. “I’m certainly interested in what you come up with.”
“It won’t be as clever as you.” Gwen played with the stem of her wine glass. “I’ve never been good with witty repartees.”
“You don’t have to be.” Nick leaned forward, his penetrating eyes focused on Gwen. “What you say is valuable to me, and every word is important. And this isn’t a contest of who’s the cleverest. I already know you’re intelligent, or I wouldn’t be here.”
