The misunderstanding about animals and heaven has been a dividing point among people for a long time. I personally know people who refuse to believe on the basis that Christianity teaches that only people have souls. Both are true.
People are the only ones that have been imbued with the breath of God, that's stated in Genesis 2:7. But, animals were also created by God and given a spirit. While the two are fundamentally different, they speak to the concept that God does not throw His creations away.
Horses are seen throughout scripture as being in heaven. Jesus is often referred to as the 'Lamb of Heaven.'
Besides, heaven is a place of eternal joy, how could you, as someone who loves their pet, be happy in heaven without them?

TA'AM
I do want to explain a little about the soul and the terrible misunderstanding the most people have. Animals have a spirit that God endowed them with when he created them from nothing. Humans have the very breath of God in them, a bit of God Himself, a soul given to the first human when God purposely formed him. Every living animal goes to heaven, but only humans can commune with God, because they are, in effect, communing with a part of themselves. So, for those of you who have denied the existence of God on the basis of your favorite pet not being there, have no fear, the Bible itself tells us that there are animals in heaven and how could it be heaven for you if they weren’t? I did not know or understand any of this at the time; it was when I came to be with humans that I finally gained that knowledge.
