End of Season Cuttings
The season of Late Summer is that short transition following the Summer months, before Fall/Autumn officially arrives. Some years this transitional season is merely a shifting feeling in the air. At other times, it brings one last hot spell or the offering of cooler nights and crisp morning air. In whatever way Late Summer chooses to bequeath us, we know that change is coming.
This short season marks a shift from the high energy and outward expression of Spring and Summer as it draws us inward during Fall/Autumn and Winter. This is the gathering and storing season preparing us for the colder months ahead. It is time to go back to school or work. Fall/Autumn harvest will soon be brought in and fields and gardens put to rest for the Winter.
The air is perfectly quiescent and all is stillness, as if Nature, after her exertions during the Summer, were now at rest. ~John Bradbury, Scottish naturalist
