Losing Heart, A Failure of Confidence
Psalm 27:13-14 “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!”
Psalm 27:13 (KJV) “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
Psalm 27:13 (NIV) “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
Psalm 27:13 (NLT) “Yet I am confident I will see the LORD’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.”
Losing heart, fainting; it suggests a response to something so frightening, so overwhelming, that your system can’t take it. In the horror movies, often the girl faints when she sees the monster. Our fake monster, the devil, tries to create scenarios in our minds that are so overwhelming, so massive that we can’t see around them or through them. If he is successful, we will lose heart.
I heard a preacher say that the devil likes to “pile on.” At times, he attacks in several areas at once, or he piles on in a single area to the point of overload. Regardless of what he is doing the answer is remaining confident in God.
In the translations above some emphasized fainting or losing heart, the others emphasized confidence in the goodness of God. Fainting and confidence are directly related. If you lose confidence in the goodness of God, you will lose heart/faint. If you have lost heart or fainted, it is because you have lost confidence in the goodness of God.
In my mind, I see a tire that’s gone flat. That’s what your spirit looks like when you have lost heart. You can’t move forward effectively in your life because all the confidence in God’s goodness that kept you rolling, has leaked out. What’s the solution? Fill the tire. Fill up your life, your heart, your spirit on the goodness of God. The Bible says, “faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).”
Years ago, I heard a message on the goodness of God by Pastor Keith Moore, of Moore Life Ministries. It changed my life. I had to listen to it over and over again because I wasn’t taught about the goodness of God. I believe it will bless your life and I want to share it with you.
