On an Aspen skiing holiday, Garth Wainwright’s business partner is killed on the slopes. The sheriff and coroner call it an accident. Wainwright has reason to believe it was murder. His bull-headedness, a driver of his business success, demands Wainwright to find the motive. His other partners discourage his involvement. None believe the murder scenario. But Wainwright must know the reason for the murder.
Digging through files he stumbles onto evidence of a massive fraud. Millions of dollars were embezzled from his firm. Should this be reported, the SEC will shut the firm down, forcing it out of business and Wainwright and his partners will go to prison and never work in the investment business again.
The fraud trail leads to one or more of Wainwrights partners. But which one was complicit? Are the fraud and the murder related? Who can he trust?
And then, another of his partners is murdered. Wainwright now fears for his life.
Walter Danley is a mystery and suspense novelist and the author of the Wainwright Mystery series, highly praised, fast-paced thriller novels to die for! As a former investment executive, Danley now writes mystery and suspense thrillers instead of living them.
The series protagonist, Garth Wainwright, is a character created from bits and pieces of the many people the author knew in business. The conflicts, conspiracies and murders in these stories are all fiction from the author’s fevered brow. But the fraud, sex, and greed he’s written about comprised significant elements of the multi-billion-dollar real estate syndication business of the late 70s and early 80s. Danley used his years of experience in that industry to craft the Wainwright Mystery series.
Critics say that if you like mystery and suspense tales with exhilarating thrills, blind curve plot twists, and page-turning action, you will love Walter Danley’s novels. Walter lives in the Texas Hill Country and writes from his library overlooking the Cibolo Creek. Look for another in the Wainwright Mystery series at your favorite retail or on-line bookstore soon.
The preceding paragraphs have set up the tension; who is this guy? who is he waiting on? why does the target deserve to die?
The answer to the last question is easy. He doesn't deserve to die. Burke is one of the good guys in the CapVest stable. We'll learn a bit later why he's been targeted, but not by whom. The Assassin is a paid killer, on assignment in Aspen and Thomas Burke is the guy that has his attention.
This is the hook that pulls Wainwright into the mystery. He liked Burke, but more than that, he knew of no reason for Burke's murder. Wainwright wants to know the reason, but he is rebuffed by his other partners. This had the effect of driving him deeper into the mystery. That is how he discovered the first viable clue to the murder.
And then another partner is murdered.

The Tipping Point: A Wainwright Mystery
The Assassin glanced over his left shoulder and saw skiers glide off the chairlift to begin their run down Walsh’s Trail. They made a sharp left turn at the watchers’ stand where the trail led down the mountain’s steepness. He flexed his stiffening knees and felt them pop. Snow-stacked sprigs above his head dripped onto his neck, running cold down his spine. It made him shiver. Considering what he was there to do, the Assassin thought, Shivers, how appropriate is that. And he continued his wait.
