Power is the reward. Fear is the currency. After retrieving and destroying the first Elemental stone, Ka Waylon is ready to head back to the Elemental Abyss and take back what’s rightfully hers: the Earth stone. Racked with guilt over the scars her friend Li now has to bear, and with Fire coursing through her veins, she’s more determined than ever to restore her fractured personality. But her ambitions change when she discovers her mother fatally wounded. Soon, Ka is left reeling with the news of her mother’s true identity. The more she learns about her mother’s past, the more she learns about the Imminent Darkness and to what lengths it will go to restore the so-called balance to the Universe: Kidnapping. MindCleanse. Murder.

The Black Bazaar plays such an important role in Ka's journey. In this second book, she's struggling to come to terms with what it means to be the Impossible Girl of legend. Her fate was foretold by a Seer in the Black Bazaar. A place that used to generate fear and a bit of curiosity in Ka, is now one of the few safe havens available to her. But sometimes safety is only an illusion.

The Earth Key
I look over his shoulder toward the alleyway. I am safer in the Underground. Bina told me so. What goes on in the Underground stays in the Underground. It’s why the Black Bazaar is full of things you’d never see anywhere else: like fortune-tellers, tattoo shops, and bars. That doesn’t mean they’re invincible though. Nobody is.
