The young woman walked quickly along a well worn path. Although it was dark it seemed to Andrew that the rest of the land was very smooth and there didn’t seem to be any vegetation. The sky on the horizon was beginning to lighten, and he noticed that this young woman, who had never offered her name, continually glanced toward the horizon. Andrew looked again and saw that where the ground met the sky, the red glowing spots were increasing in number and intensity.
“We have to hurry,” the young woman said. “We’re almost there.”
They rounded a large boulder and came to an opening. “Quickly, in here,” she said and ducked into the cave.
Matt eagerly followed. Susie grumbled but went inside. Andrew stopped for a moment and looked back at the horizon. It looked as if the sun would peak over the top at any moment. He was still holding onto Julie’s hand and noticed that their palms were sweaty.
“Hurry,” the young woman said, “the sun is almost up!”
Andrew and Julie stepped inside. Immediately, a large boulder rolled into place, blocking any escape. It was dark. Andrew noticed that the walls were glowing a soft red glow, which grew in intensity until the inside of the cave was visible. “This way,” the young woman said, and led them to an alcove in the wall. Once they were all inside, an elevator like mechanism kicked in and they began to descend slowly, to another level. As they slowly dropped into the earth, Andrew asked, “Do you have a name young woman?”
“I do, sir,” the young woman replied without looking at Andrew. “They call me Naamah.”
