There are worse things than drinking alone at three o'clock on a wet Tuesday afternoon.
I was about to get up, fill the ice cube trays and pour another drink when the buzzer of my bedsit front door went off. Not expecting company, I froze.
A faint voice drifted from the street and in through my open window.
"Cornelius, it's me, Blayne."
I went to the door and held my hand over the buzzer. I considered pretending I wasn't in and waiting until Blayne left, but the buzzer went off again.
"You can't pretend you're not in, I know you're up here, your car is outside, and I saw you sitting by the window, acting like you haven't got a care in the world."
