Bradford was disappointed when Laura didn’t come out of the cottage. Ruth told him she had a headache and was resting. Even though he was unhappy about not seeing Laura, he still had a great time helping Jenny place the fish and lily pads in her small pond. “Look, Jenny,” he said. “Now the fish can hide from Tabby.” As if following orders, one fish swam under a lily pad. Watching the brightly colored fish swim around and around only to disappear, Tabby crouched by the pond. Every now and then, her paw patted at the water very close to one of the new fish.
“Tabby, you leave those fish alone!” Jenny scolded her cat.
Bradford smiled, “Be sure to come to Oak Grove tomorrow so we can continue to train Scamp for the fair.” At long last he mounted his black stallion. As he rode away, Jenny waved good-bye.
