After pouring the water into the coffeemaker, Jenkins walked to the front door to get the morning paper. He had opened the door and stooped down to pick the paper up when a pair of shoes appeared in front of his eyes from nowhere. Senator Jenkins picked up the paper, beginning to stand upright as his eyes scanned the legs that were attached to those shoes. He contin- ued his motion upward. When he saw the face of the man standing in front of him, he smiled. “I was wondering when I would have the honor of your presence. Come on in.”
Jenkins opened the door further and moved aside to let his visitor enter his condo. As the visitor passed, the senator stood for a moment and looked around the outside. He wanted to make sure that his visitor hadn’t been fol- lowed, although he knew that the visitor would have taken great strides to make sure that hadn’t occurred. When confident that the man had not been followed, the senator went inside, shutting the door behind him.
