Ruth gasped. “Why, that’s my mother’s ring. I’ve been looking for it for ages. Where did you find it?”
“I was going through your husband’s desk and felt it in the very back of the drawer. I wanted to return it to its rightful owner.” Bradford smiled as he held out the lovely ring.
“I always wanted Laura to have it,” Ruth said. “Would you please see if the ring fits her?”
Before Laura could reach over to get it, Bradford took her hand and gently slipped it on the ring finger of her right hand. Laura jerked back and glared at him, her suspicions not allowing her to enjoy the ring at the moment. All she could think of was how he had violated her father’s privacy when he had searched through the desk. Why had he done that?
