Monday morning, Sera was sitting on the sofa in the outer office of the studio. She and Martha were reviewing the prints she had done the night before.
“He is one fine piece of art, isn't he?” Martha remarked.
“I guess.”
“You guess? Are you blind? Look at this one with his shirt half way unbuttoned and that come get me look. It's like he can make a girl's panties spontaneously explode.”
“No guy can do that, Martha.”
“I beg to differ. God, he has the most intense eyes and you have captured them beautifully.”
“Thanks. I'm pretty pleased with the result. I think he should have plenty to work with for the album cover and some promos.”
“Can I take a couple? You know, just for... personal use?”
“You're really into him, aren't you?”
Blaze had just stepped off the elevator and the voices from the office rang in his ears. He stopped for a moment.
Martha nodded vigorously. “But I think he was more interested in you.”
“I don't have time for him. He's probably one of those lay 'em and leave 'em kind.”
“Who cares? Sometimes ya just need to get down and dirty.”
Sera laughed. “You need a boyfriend.”
“Look who's talking. I think your lunch with Blaze yesterday was the only date I have seen you on.”
“That was not a date.”
“Hm, maybe it was a pseudo date.”
“Not ever close, it was lunch with a client.”
“Then maybe you should have more two legged clients so you can meet someone.”
“How did we get on the subject of my love life?” Sera asked.
“Because we're looking at pictures of a fine specimen. Doesn't he make you hot?”
Sera stood and said, “I think this conversation is a little too personal for an employer and employee.” She went to fill her coffee mug.
“I'd like to think we've become more than that over the past two years.”
“Coffee?”
Martha nodded.
“Yes, I suppose we have,” Sera admitted as she filled Martha's mug. “But let's get back to business. You have Terry's number right?”
“Yup.”
“OK, give him a call. Tell him we can have a messenger bring him some photos.”
“Maybe you should deliver them yourself?”
“I'll tell you what.” Sera plopped back down on the sofa. “You can hand deliver them. You seemed to get along quite well with Mr. Smithers.”
“He was kinda cute too.”
Blaze took a deep breath to clear his wandering thoughts and entered the studio. “Good morning ladies.”
Sera's head spun around. She practically spilled her coffee in the process. She jumped up from the sofa. Blaze eyed her. She was wearing black leggings and an oversized sweater. He wondered why she always hid her figure.
