Giving Your Book a Voice with Audiobooks

By guest bloggers Mara Purl and Richard Rieman

Heard any good books lately? That may “sound” like an odd question. Maybe the last time someone read you a story, you were seven years old trying to keep your eyes open long enough to hear the ending. But audiobooks are sweeping the nation. If you haven’t become a listener yet, you may soon find yourself in the minority. According to The Wall Street Journal, “audio books are the fastest growing format in the book business today.” Sales grew 34% in 2016—the third year in a row that audiobooks experienced double-digit growth, according to the Audio Publishers Association.

What does this mean for you as an author? You now have an opportunity for increased market exposure, an expanded audience, and more sales if you produce your existing books as audiobooks. Sounds simple! And it is . . . sort of. If done right, your audiobooks can give your brand and your books a turbo boost. If done wrong, though, you risk damaging your creative reputation.

That’s where our webinar presentation for Bublish, “Giving Your Book a Voice,” can help. We’ll walk you step-by-step through the process of creating your audiobook—explaining all the options and showing you how your audiobook venture doesn’t have to break the bank.

Like you, both of us are authors. We have taken our own work through the audiobook production process that we’ll be showing you. We’ve gone on to work with authors as professional audio producers, and each of us is also an active audio performer and narrator. We know you have a lot of questions, just like we did when we started this journey many years ago. Here are just a few of the questions we’ll be answering during the webinar:

  • Should you narrate your own audiobook or should you hire someone else?
  • How do you find a good narrator?
  • Is it true you can record in your house?
  • Should you seek out a professional recording studio?
  • Where are audiobooks sold and how should you price your audiobook?
  • Should you put off jumping into the audio revolution or is it time to get started right now?
  • What are the costs and timeline involved in audiobook production?

We hope you’ll click the orange button and listen in…and, if you like this webinar, you’ll be invited to other free, educational webinars offered each month by Bublish. You can unsubscribe at any time.
