This is the new prologue. I made a very small but HUGE change or should I say addition. Just as my novel was about to go to print, I noticed the editors had removed a small line. Well, small to them but HUGE to me. See if you can find it. My next book bubble will reveal the change and I'll give you my thoughts.
I've decided to post the entire Prologue to my novel. I thought it would be more convenient for people to read the whole thing all at once instead of in small sections. If you're astute, you may notice some small changes from my other posts, but one of the small changes is actually a HUGE addition... see if you can find it. I will be posting a new bubble about what happened and why it was missing from the original bubble in a few days. They say one line can change a movie/book. This just might be that one line. It's a good story and I can't wait to post about what happened to my most important line and how it almost got left out of the book. OUCH!!!
This is it. The first time a human has been injected with the virus. The virus, just like liquid magma burns within as it travels through the blood vessels. Hoc feels relief when the man's head finally drops, hoping his pain is over. But, somehow the man is still alive. When the man looks at Hoc he feels a strange sense of guilt knowing that somehow , even though he wasn't part of the group that created the virus, he's responsible. Sadness and guilt are quickly changed to fear as the silver haired man orders the scientist, including him, to be killed. He turns to run, but there's no chance he can out run a bullet.
Hoc is starting to realize that his life long friend Robert has used him in some horrible way and that most likely, he's the only person in the room that doesn't know what's going on. Hoc also begins to realize that the prisoner probably isn't the only person who's life is in danger. This is the first time the reader is introduced to the virus and now we know that it was man-made, created by this group of scientists using Hoc's research, without his knowledge of coarse. Hoc realizes he's witnessing the first ever human trial and that he has NO power to stop it. As a lead scientists at the CDC, Hoc has dedicated his life to stopping the spread of disease and virus'. So, he knows the potential outcome of what he's witnessing, but there's no way he can comprehend the magnitude of what's about to happen. You're probably wondering what's up with Hoc's friend Robert Nake. Why is he so calm while the others scared? Does he know something the others don't? Who is the Polynesian man? Hint: a innocent man picked off the streets of Oahu. You're also about to get introduced to the deplorable man responsible for the virus, but who is he and what's up with the soldiers? To answer the question, you may never find out who the man is...Okay, you will, but much later in the book. He must be pretty important to have U.S. Solders protecting him. Originally the prologue was written as a flashback, but upon further consideration, I decided it would be an exciting way to start the book. Now, the reader will have some insight as to what Shay and the other survivors are up against as the virus begins to spread. This is the first three paragraphs of a fairly long prologue. I'll reveal more of the prologue in the near future. In this section, A lead scientist, Hoc Chen, from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) finds himself in a top secret lab, invited by his life long friend Robert. The lab is located on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii in the village of Kauku not far from the hospital. I'm familiar with this location and the hospital since I was a patent there on more than one occasion while attending college in Hawaii years ago. Hoc doesn't know the real reason he is there when the screaming begins, but he's about to find out...
