Why was this story set on Halloween night?

When I first started writing about Richard I was working on a novel not a short story. However, this part of his background kept wanting to intrude on my writing, so I decided to try and get it down on paper in it's own short story. Around that same time, my wife was encouraging me to look for publishers who might be interested in picking up our stories. In the process, I found a small press publisher looking for Halloween stories for an upcoming collection. So now I knew that I wanted at least one of the chapters to take place during a Halloween full moon.What I found was that the two events don't coincide very often, but just often enough to set the story over two separate Halloween nights. In the process, I set a lot of Richard's life in motion...
