Book Bubbles from Holding Up the Sky_final EPUB 9.12.25
Morning routine to start the day in a new house in a new neighborhood, East coast, not West coast, a new job, all to have health insurance and stability. My aim as a dad was to find some kind of normalcy, some regular pattern, some predictable order in our daily lives. The challenges of comprehension issues and hearing deficits of our two youngest kids, Kathryn and Eric, were multiplied by the recent move.
My wife, Linda, and I realized that our oldest daughter Alana, not yet four, was being shaken by the loss of her grandfather and the near-death of her newborn sister. In this chapter, I take Alana to a child psychiatrist and piggy-back an outing afterward just for Alana and me. Then the magic happened.
Alana was three when her infant sister, Kathryn, had been stricken by a viral infection of the heart and wasn't expected to live. Our lives were turned upside down. Alana's dance in the living room showed us just how impacted she was. I knew as a father I had to redouble my efforts to support her. That's when we began outings-- like to the Golden Gate Bridge-- to bring her closer, to embrace and nurture her through the crisis. Watch for another bubble about finding the magic holding-together things underneath the Golden Gate
