Author Profile

Roda Hilenski Grubb

Roda Hilenski Grubb always dreamed of being a writer but never thought it would be her life. With only a few published pieces, and a long career in office work, she moved with her husband to the Rio Grande Valley in 2001. There she began writing as a feature writer for the Valley Town Crier in McAllen, Texas, in 2002, winning awards along the way. Writing freelance jobs on the side, the McAllen Chamber of Commerce hired her in 2004 as a feature writer for their now award winning McAllen Chamber newsletter. Honing her craft for 10 years, she discovered writing was truly her passion in life—telling stories and having them make a difference in her readers’ lives. Breaking away from the Town Crier in 2012, she jumped feet first into the sphere of self-publishing with her first storybook, Rocksann Finds God, then Everelle’s Quest, an Isle of Foote novel, a far cry from her degree in Theatre/Speech Communication. Working on her next book, a biography, and with a second Isle of Foote novel in the works, she lives in deep South Texas with her husband, and poodle, Nicolas. Life is never dull for this pastor’s wife.

Everelle's Quest, an Isle of Foote novel

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Everelle finds herself fleeing her burning world with no memory of her past. Joining with seven strangers is her only hope as they follow the mysterious Mentula, who leads them to his world, the wondrous Isle of Foote. Persuaded to join a quest to save Isle of Foote from destruction, the eight set out, not realizing it would be imperative to join forces with the most unlikely characters, such as dragons, wizards, giants and more. Do they dare to discover the answers to their burning questions? “What were we thinking? How can we, ordinary mortals, hope to face our fears and find a way to save the island against astonishing odds?” Everelle’s Quest, an Isle of Foote novel, is an eye-opening roller-coaster ride with ups, downs, and surprises around every turn.

Dreams Count

Years ago I had a dream of a girl, who was part of a group, escaping to a unique place just like Everelle and her friends did. I wrote it down in my dream book thinking it would make a great story. Years later when I sat down to begin the story in March 2014, I never thought of where the whole thing would take me. As a "pantser," writing by the seat of my pants, I had to trust the process when I sat down before my computer and began to write. I was always astounded with the story which unfolded before me like a movie. What do you thing?
