Character Inspiration
I have always had trouble naming my characters. The character Haley Mathers is named after the daughter of rapper Eminem, whom I was listening to when I wrote her first scene. I always meant to go back and change the name, but I soon realized no other name would do. The character of Delores is based on my aunt, who is an amazing trauma surgeon, and she taught me the actual (and callous) terms like "Circling the Drain". The Dead Heart Phenomenon is not named for a real medical condition, but the heart is still very mysterious, and sometimes for no apparent reason at all, the heart just refuses to beat. I don't remember where the name Dennison came from.
