Veronica Mars meets Murphy Brown in this gripping new mystery series. The elite seaside community of Papaya Springs is a twisted playground for the rich and famous. Can Bexley save her missing sister before it's game over?
Book Bubbles from The Dead Girl’s Stilettos: A Bexley Squires Mystery
I've adored Dave Grohl (of Nivrana and Foo Fighters fame) since high school, and a couple years back I had the honor of "running into" him. To my utter embarrassment, I went into shock and cried. I couldn't even tell you what exactly I said to him, but he was extremely sweet and gave me a big hug before we had our picture taken. Bexley doesn't exactly have her act together when she meets "Dave," but at least she's a little more coherent.
Bexley Squires is tough, but she's not always as confident as she wants everyone to believe, and tends to respond with something corny whenever she feels vulnerable or threatened. And with Grayson, her high school crush, she'd streak naked through town before she'd admit that she still feels something for him.
We immediately learn that Bexley's younger sister is missing, and it's a subject I don't take lightly. I was only a few years older than Jacob Wetterling when he was abducted in the 80s near where I lived, and I can't tell you how many times I've thought of his parents in the last 30 years. More recently, as my daughter started her first year of college, two young women were murdered nearby, a month apart. I haven't slept a full night since. The idea of having a loved one disappear like that is heartbreaking.
Although romance takes a backseat in this story, I wanted to throw my no nonsense female sleuth off her game by adding complicated feelings into the mix.
