A Tense, nerve-wracking adventure

Ok so people have asked me, 'why are some scenes so tense?' and it made me think. One of the trademarks of a P.S Bridge book, is large battle scenes and tension, the kind of quiet tension where nobody dares breathe. Tension intices the reader to read on, it makes us wonder, 'what next?' I want the reader to feel like they are stood WITH my characters, not just as if it's being watched, like in a movie. Why do we read? To escape. So why not transport the reader right into the action so they can feel what the characters feel, see what the characters see, hear what the characters hear. This was particularly prominent when writing the ballroom scene where Mark dances to Adele's 'When We Were Young' with 'Marie'. I wrote this scene when my mother was dying and I wanted to show a softer side, then rip it apart with a running gun fight: tension/harmony/tension.

What IS 'The Black Nest'?

A nest is a camouflaged hiding place or structure, built for a sniper to hide and sleep in. In terms of a 'Black Nest', this is a mataphor for the terrorist 'Aahil' and his dark or black activities conducted on behalf of the Invictus Advoca organisation. With Mark King, he is constantly looking for Invictus Advoca's 'black nest' so he can destroy the organisation. I wanted to create something sinister and dark and 'The Black Nest' also refers to the final target of the terrorist towards the end of the novel. The beauty of having free reign as a fiction author, is that you are able to create things to suit your purpose. My preference is to have a factual basis as well.

The NEW Mark King Thriller

Just when Mark King thought it was safe to retire in New York, to a life of peace, hidden from MI6 and Invictus Advoa. Suddenly Mark King is dragged, kicking and screaming, back into the world of professional killing, and this time, it's MI6 who need a favour. The problem here was that, Mark King had been through such a traumatic time, losing his wife in 'Hit', going straight into killing and not really stopping in 'Hitback', that between the books and into 'The Black Nest', he is suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress. I wanted to see how it would affect him psychologically when finally, the killing stopped, and its a bumpy ride!

Hitback

Mystery, Thriller & Suspense

18 months after the battle at Ain M’lila airfield & plagued by nightmares and flashbacks about his late wife, Mark is enjoying a well-earned holiday in the Scottish Highlands when he stumbles across hitmen trying to assassinate a woman, Nadia Moore, a Hit woman out for revenge. After rescuing her, the two begin to uncover a threat which draws Mark back into the violent world of professional Hitmen and to someone Mark thought he had buried……..

Will Mark King Find Love?

So, the grieving father and hitman now has a new love interest. But is he really ready to move on with his love life after the death of his wife? The children have certainly made up their minds that, while not forgetting their mother, Nadia brings hope for the future and security, being a highly trained

The Battle of Sunningdale Nursing Home

Nial Atkinson is an elderly ex-military man and breakaway member of Invictus Advoca, and he morphs into almost a mentor for main character Mark King, advising him, providing him with weapons and tactics. In 'Hitback' I wanted to demonstrate some of that expert SAS type behaviour which Nial Atkinson told Mark so much about, but to keep it amusing. The only way Mark can cope with the horrors of professional killing, is to use humour. Atkinson is exactly the same so when Invictus Advoca attempt to take out Atkinson at his nursing home, they underestimate how prepared he was for this day. I wanted to have fun with the scene, injecting some typically British 'stiff upper lip' humour into what would otherwise be a violent chapter!

Hit

Mystery, Thriller & Suspense

A TERRORIST THREAT. A SINISTER ORGANISATION. A THREAT TO THE SECURITY OF THE FREE WORLD. Imagine a perfect life being dissolved in an instant. Mark King certainly does, and he’s a pretty cool customer; though he’s a very human one. He hunts a criminal syndicate which ruined his life. And what a life he had – hotshot lawyer, nice house, pretty wife, two kids... Unfortunately for the bad guys, Mark has quite the background; ex-British Lawyer, Sandhurst dropout and an elite sniper in the British Army. What follows is a series of events that unfold at breakneck pace, and a race against time to foil a terrorist plot, and an organisation’s bid for world domination. Can Mark uncover the mysteries surrounding the Invictus Advoca organisation and stop a terrorist from turning the streets of London into a warzone? Character Creation

Many people have asked me lately, 'where did you get the idea for Mark King, a Lawyer, from?' Well the truth of the matter is that I'd been in the legal profession for about 13 years and was working for a major financial institution when I first got the idea for Mark King. It occured to me when I saw all the legal minds I worked with in one room and wondered what would happen if they turned on the establishment, flipped to the other end of the extreme? How good would they be? And so Mark King was born but I needed an edge, something else. He had to have a history or he wouldn't be able to do what he did, so I used a friend of mine who went to Sandhurst and gave my character that background, particularly in the Marksman dicipline. Then I needed to discover how he went from Sandhurst to Lawyer, something had to make him change and who better than the woman he loves, his wife and university love Marie?

What makes A Man, A Killer?

What drives a man like Mark King, to become a killer? In Mark's case, grief and the certainty that his wife's killers are still free. He's doing what he's always done, except this time, he's at the end of a sniper rifle scope! From an author's perspective, I doubt Mark would have done this without the backing of his mother-in-law. The fact that she backs his decision to use his skill set to punish her daughters killers, leaves Mark in no doubt that what he's doing is justice rather than revenge. But will this line stay as clear? Read 'Hit' and find out!

Another name off Mark King's hitlist!

The exciting thing about Mark King, is that he is an elite sniper who uses his skills as an act of revenge. 'Hit' is the first of a series of 15 planned books charting his journey to defeat Invictus Advoca and finally get the answers he wants; who murdered his wife and why? Essentially, 'Hit' is Mark's hitlist. Throughout the story, he takes out one hitman after another, hoping the next hit, will be his wife's killer. Naturally of course, if he managed it, there would only be 1 book and not 15! Follow the saga, be part of the world, discover the secrets!

Excerpt from 'The Battle of Cabrera' scene in Hit

I wanted to have fun with the characters in this scene. Yes it's a scene of horrendous death and destruction, but there's also a human element to it too. El Toro is an old war dog who secretly misses the action but vowed to live a life of peace, until that is, Mark King arrives on his foritfied island retreat and brings a task force from Invictus Advoca with him
