What happens to your psychological state if you're Linked (joined in mental communion) with your mother as she's atomized from existence? Not too many people get to find out. Randal Scott is one of the unfortunate few, and he wouldn't wish that hell upon anyone. Who would? Randy enlists into the Commonwealth Defense Force (CDF) to deliver retribution to the man who killed his mother and mentally scarred him for life, his father, Arson Scott. After establishing a wonderful life for his family and nurturing his son into manhood, Arson mysteriously joined the insurgency that threatens to collapse humanity's intergalactic republic and partook in his wife's murder. Now Randy proceeds with deployment to Colony Four, where his father operates his insurgent faction. Alongside his lover and comrade, whom he shares a Link with, Stacie Spencer, Randy forges ahead with his quest to enact revenge. However, the path to vengeance is not a straightforward one for Randy. He becomes entangled in a web of violent conflict, lies, and conspiracies that have him questioning both of the combat forces in opposition, the CDF and the insurgency known as the Coalition of Rebel Factions.
Stacie Spencer, Randal Scott's girlfriend, was an interesting character to write. She was birthed into wealth, but wants to divorce herself from that lifestyle and not just be the family business predecessor. She wants to carve out her own future. This excerpt goes into detail about Stacie's history.
Every good novel needs a good villain. This excerpt gives you insight into the main villain's, Cornelius Gould's, motivations.
Cornelius Gould and Oviereya Amaechi are the two candidates running for Chief Executive in next year's election. Cornelius, the main villian of the story, and Oviereya have two different mindsets concerning the downtrodden class of humanity. Cornelius believes they should remain the Commonwealth's labor force and Oviereya, the change-maker, believes they should be elevated within the stratified society. I had fun writing the counter arguments for each of these characters' rationale, as if I were putting myself in their shoes and arguing their points of view.
One of the concepts I enjoyed exploring was what happens when people are born in the utopian environment versus the substandard, dystopian environment. In this case, Stacie, born in the utopian environment, believes that the hardships spoken about by the people of the dystopian environment are trickery, propaganda, or fabrication. But what happens when Randy becomes unblinded while his girlfriend, Stacie, remains blinded. Purchase to find out!
