Little kids, little problems. Big kids ... federal felony charges? Attorney Sasha McCandless-Connelly has her hands full with her six-year-old twins, but she adores her pack of nieces and nephews. So when sixteen-year-old Colin calls and tearfully announces he's been arrested, she flies into action to protect him. Colin’s accused of using the Internet to make threatening statements, a federal felony. Social media posts by Colin threaten his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend with violence—and worse. Colin swears he didn’t make the posts, and Sasha believes him. Then the private messages turn up. As she shines a light on the high school’s dark underbelly, the teenagers close rank, and the whispered secrets multiply. But she’s confident she can clear Colin’s name. Then someone actually tries to make good on the threat to kill the other boy. Colin’s taken into custody on an attempted murder charge, and the prosecutor vows to try him as an adult. Someone’s trying to frame him. But who? And why? Sasha navigates a web of lies and ever-shifting alliances as she scrambles to save a kid whose diapers she once changed ... even as she realizes she doesn’t know him nearly as well as she thought she did.
Discover the first three fast-paced, suspense-packed legal thrillers in the Sasha McCandless series! Irreparable Harm: After eight years, Sasha is about to make partner at her law firm. Her client's plane slams into the side of a mountain, killing everyone aboard. She gears up to defend the inevitable lawsuits and soon realizes that the crash was no accident. Sasha and a federal air marshal race to prevent another disaster. But when people close to the matter start dying, she must stop a madman before he kills her. Inadvertent Disclosure: Six months after an airplane crash altered Sasha's life, she's building her solo law practice and tending her budding relationship with Leo Connelly. When she drives to rural Clear Brook County to argue a discovery motion, she finds a town bitterly divided over Marcellus Shale hydrofracking. Then the town's only judge is murdered, and Sasha can’t just walk away. Irretrievably Broken: The Prescott & Talbott law firm is reeling from the murder of a partner, purportedly at the hands of her estranged husband, when a photograph arrives: the dead woman’s face is Xed out and "ONE DOWN" is scrawled across the bottom. Within days, a second partner is murdered, her husband also accused. Sasha takes on the cases of both of the so-called Lady Lawyer Killers. The long hours jeopardize her relationship with Connelly. That's the least of her troubles, though, because the real killer is waging a vendetta for a long-forgotten case. And there's one more lawyer on his list.
The main character of my legal thriller series is hard-charging attorney, Sasha McCandless. When we meet Sasha, she's been practicing law for eight years at a prestigious law firm. She's *this close* to making partner, which is her overriding ambition at the start of the series. This scene sets up the disaster at the core of IRREPARABLE HARM and shows the sacrifices Sasha's made to get where she is. The last-minute client emergency, canceled date, and Chinese takeout at the desk scenario is, sadly, drawn from personal experience during my own, long-ago years as a single lawyer.
