Listening to the Heart

Our world is full of chaos and distractions, and it's easy to get stressed and even feel depressed. I have to slow down and find the time to create a quiet place in my world every day. I've found that it isn't hard to create that quiet, and I'm always glad when I do. Unplugging for a while--no computer, cell phone, television, social media, podcasts, etc. for an hour or so is really helpful. Paying attention to my breathing, slowing it down and getting so quiet that I can feel my heart beat brings me to a place where I can hear the voice of my heart, spirit or soul. Asking the highest parts of myself for clarity or guidance for my highest good to function at my best is my focus. With practice, hearing or "knowing" can become clearer and clearer. I usually write down what I hear or "get" in my journal. Sometimes it's not what I want to hear--like "You need to declutter your office." or "Do a workout; You'll feel better." Lately, it has been, "Call your senator about this issue." or "Move outside your comfort zone; Talk more with people you don't know." Having a clear connection to one's heart can help create a more meaningful, healthy life and help the world, too.

A friend of mine: Happiness is a choice

I have a friend who was born without eyes and would not have the ability to walk his whole life. At an early age it was discovered that he had a gift for music. He began just playing melodies on the piano at the age of three, and it developed into a wonderful talent. He was an excellent student and became fluent in other languages. He always has been a very joyful person. I asked him once where his joy came from. He replied, 'I have a wonderful life. I love and am loved, and I have something that I love to do. My life is good. The joy is inside me, and I can serve others with my joy.' Happiness is a choice--always has been, always will be.

Happiness is a Choice

I have a friend who was born without eyes and would not have the ability to walk his whole life. As a young adult, he is full of energy, positivity, and gratitude. He is also a very talented musician. I asked him about his disabilities, and he said, " Disability? What disability? I can do everything I need to do. I can do the things that bring me joy and use my gifts. I am blessed with a loving family, and am doing what I am here to do." The way he lives his life is the result of his choices. My friend lives the principle that happiness IS a choice. Always has been; always will be.
