One Year On Broadway

Arts & Photography

One Year on Broadway is the unlikely true story of two musical theater fans whose lives were forever changed by seeing a touring production of Once on This Island in 1992. What they saw that night was a version of their own story played out on the stage and it gave them the courage to fight for their own forbidden love. Twenty-five years later, by some strange twist of fate, they were led back to the Island where they ignored conventional wisdom, took a leap of faith, and became co-producers of the Tony Award winning Broadway Revival of Once On This Island. This is their love letter to the musical that gave them more than they ever could have imagined.

One Year on Broadway

We could never know how seeing a performance of the Broadway musical Once on This Island twenty-five years ago would change the rest of our lives.

Broadway's Biggest Night

We could never have known that one night twenty-five years ago would lead us to the Tony Awards, Broadway's biggest night.

And the Tony Award Goes To...

Never in our wildest dreams would we have thought we would attend the Tony Awards.

Three Minutes That Changed My Life

In those three minutes listening to Ti Moune sing "Waiting For Life" my heart stirred and I was instantly hooked on Once on This Island. I had no idea where this love would lead twenty-five years later.

My Most Important Role

It suddenly hit me that I was no longer the main character, that I was now the old father and I was a supporting character-maybe that was my most important role in life.

We Weren't Supposed to Win

Once on This Island wasn't favored to win the Tony Award, everyone knew the award for Best Revival of a Musical was going to go to Carousel or My Fair Lady, but somehow the Gods were with us that night. In that moment I realized that all our successes and failures had led to this night. If anything had been different, if one failure had been a success, we would not be here. My heart burst with gratitude and I realized my purpose from now on was to lift and support those around me.

Ninety Seconds on Stage

Everything in our lives had somehow led us to this moment and all of a sudden as I stood on stage with my son at Radio City Music Hall, my perspective on life shifted.

Courage to Forgive

By learning to forgive and let go of past trauma we allow room in our hearts for seeds of love to be planted.

Our Journey to Broadway

We had never planned to be co-producers of a Broadway show, hadn't ever even thought about it, but sometimes life takes strange and unexpected turns that bring you to exactly the place you need to be. Almost as if we had been led there by the gods, we found ourselves sitting in a Broadway theater experiencing the revival of Once on This Island, the musical we had helped bring back to life.

An Unexpected Journey

We had never planned to be co-producers of a Broadway show, hadn't ever even thought about it, but sometimes life takes strange and unexpected turns that bring you to exactly the place you need to be. Almost as if we had been led there by the gods themselves, we found ourselves sitting in a Broadway theater experiencing the revival of Once on This Island, the musical which we had helped bring back to life.

Forbidden Love

Love isn't easy and sometimes you have to risk it all to do what your heart knows is right.

The Night that Changed Everything

This chapter details the night that the Broadway musical Once on This Island forever became a part of our lives. We couldn't possibly know where this night would lead.

Our Night at the Tony Awards

We never expected to be there, but somehow the leap to be co-producers of our favorite Broadway show led us to the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall. We could never have imagined how the night would end.

A Night at the Tony Awards

One Year on Broadway is our love letter to the Broadway musical Once on This Island.

Love Letter to Once on This Island

How do you know when it's time to close one chapter of your life and begin a new one? To let go of the past, open your heart, and trust in a new beginning? At first we said, "no." We knew it was ridiculous. And yet something in our hearts led us back to the Island. Having no idea where it would lead us, my husband and I took a leap of faith and became co-producers of the Broadway Revival of Once on This Island, the musical that had given us so much. Even if it failed, we would have a great story to tell. We ended up with so much more.
