Meet Isobel
I wanted to make Isobel's entrance reflect her personality. She is a strong, troubled woman, having difficulties both with communication and forming relationships. This could be due to many reasons -- her childhood was tainted by the tragic death of her brother, and she subsequently abandoned her newborn daughter. Could her coolness be due to these tragic events, or is she neuro-diverse?
Trying not to die
I felt that trying not to die was an interesting dynamic; that it placed the character in a position of power, despite her vulnerable (and arguably powerless) situation. Did she fight, or did she mindfully control her breathing and empower her body to face this external force determined to take her life? That's for the reader to surmise.
