"Later" is never guaranteed
This was one of the last sections I wrote for the book (I wrote it chronologically, but editing and subsequent drafts necessitated additions as well as subtractions!). It was also one of my favourite scenes to write, as it allowed William to reveal his motivation in helping Joe find the literal woman of his dreams.
My Last First Kiss
This scene, as with so many others in the book, was inspired by my wife. Though Claire (the character) is not Erin (the love of *my* life), whenever the former spoke I couldn't help but hear the latter, and whatever words I heard in my head were often reminiscent of those we shared together. Erin was my last first kiss, just as Joe is for Claire. Enjoy.
