Continuing the adventure that began in Egypt a few months prior in The Secret of the Sacred Scarab, cousins Adam and Justin Sinclair are hot on the trail of the second Stone of Power, one of seven ancient stones lost centuries ago. This stone might be embedded in the hilt of a newly discovered sword that archaeologists believe belonged to King Arthur: Excalibur. However, their long-standing enemy, Dr. Khalid, is following them as they travel to Scotland to investigate an old castle. Little do they know there is another deadly force, the Eaters of Poison, who have their own mission to complete. Time is running out as the confluence of the planets draws closer. Can Justin and Adam find the second Stone of Power and survive? And why did Aunt Isabel send a girl with them? Join Justin and Adam as they search not only for the second Stone of Power, but also for the Scroll of the Ancients, a mysterious document that holds important clues to the Seven Stones of Power. As their adventure unfolds, they face dangers that make even their perils in Egypt look tame. And how annoying for them that their tag-along companion, Kim, seems to have such good ideas when they are stumped. Book extras include some historical background on King Arthur, the Dark Ages, warfare and weaponry during Arthur’s time, and details on Excalibur. A fascinating peek into the life of the real King Arthur, perfect for young time travelers and budding archaeologists.
In their second adventure, Adam, Justin and Kim come across a strange group of people that they later learn are called the Eaters of Poison. Contact with them could be fatal. But what are they looking for? Why are they following our young heroes? And why are they so dangerous? Their first encounter is at Humphrey Biddle's shop....
Because the figure of Arthur has been shrouded in so much legend, one wonders if Excalibur was as powerful as legends say. Surely it was all made up? When the kids are in Oxford, they meet Archibald Curran, someone who should know all about Arthur and Excalibur because he is an expert on fifth and sixth century Britain. Archie reads them an extract from a book of medieval Welsh poems. Excalibur sounds as marvellous as everyone believes! But is it true...?
Adam's connection to the Stones of Power is so powerful that when he, Justin and Kim get their fortunes told, Adam has a very strong vision - but where is it? Is this the place they'll be going next? Why is he wearing a weird costume with an elaborate headdress? Reading the tea leaves in Adam's cup, Madam FiFi the fortune teller actually sees more but she dare not tell them what's in store...
In this Bubble, Adam, Justin and Kim discover that someone has set the stables and cottage in the castle grounds on fire! Clever birds Athena and Thumbelina (owls!) warn them by tapping on their window and waking them up. Remembering what they learned at school, the kids do their best to save someone in the cottage. It's easy to think you'll know what to do in an emergency, but reality is far different...
The Eaters of Poison are a really scary bunch. They are the descendants of a group of monks from centuries back. They have a mission that has been passed down through the generations. This mission is all they live for, and they're not afraid to get rid of anyone who stands in their way. Why are they called the Eaters of Poison? Interestingly, they were fed poison from an early age so that their bodies contain poison; just one scratch is enough for them to harm their enemies. Unfortunately, they might think Adam and his friends are just that!
Adam's dreams are becoming stronger with every adventure and are linked to the stones of power. This time he dreams of King Arthur and it is so real he wonders if somehow he has travelled back in time. This is an amazing dream and in it Arthur gives him an instruction, but is this relevant for Adam's future, or is it about the past, King Arthur's past? Read the bubble and decide...
King Arthur's sword, Excalibur, has been found and is awaiting restoration in the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. Is the stone in the hilt the Second Stone of Power?
The kids encounter a different kind of enemy - the Eaters of Poison. Contact with them is usually fatal... Who are the enigmatic and scary Eaters of Poison, driven by an ancient purpose? What is their connection to the castle’s past and James’ ancestor, Bedwyr the Curious Monk, whose research into history started all the trouble?
A 5000-year-old mystery comes to life when a scruffy peddler gives two young South African tourists, Adam and Justin Sinclair, an old Egyptian scarab on their very first day in Egypt. Only when the evil Dr. Faisal Khalid shows a particular interest in the cousins and their scarab, do the boys realise they are in terrible danger. Dr. Khalid wants the relic at all costs. Justin and Adam embark upon the adventure of a lifetime, taking them down the Nile and across the harsh desert in their search for the legendary tomb of the Scarab King, an ancient Egyptian ruler. They are plunged into a whirlpool of hazardous and mysterious events when Dr. Khalid kidnaps them. They survive terrifying dangers in a hostile environment (such as a giant cobra, as well as sinking sand), pursued by enemies in their quest to solve the secret of the sacred scarab. They must translate the hieroglyphic clues on the underside of the scarab, as well as rescue the missing archaeologist James Kinnaird, and their friend, the Egyptologist Ebrahim Faza, before time runs out. They must also learn more about the ancient Seven Stones of Power and the mysterious Shemsu-Hor. With just their wits, courage, and each other, the boys manage to survive … only to find that the end of one journey is the beginning of another!
On our trip to Egypt, I also bought scarabs from the market stalls, and they were exactly as Aunt Isabel describes - mass produced for tourists. But somehow Adam is given a very important scarab. Where is it? How does the peddler manage to get it to him after the police start chasing him...?
No kidding, anyone caught in a sandstorm hasn't a chance of outrunning it and surviving! Join heroes Adam and Justin as they and their kidnappers make a mad dash across the sand dunes for shelter before the sands of death engulf them!
The secrets of the ancient past are fascinating, especially when it comes to ancient Egypt. Legends speak of a group of mythical leaders called the Neteru, who brought teachings and other wisdom to the people of the land of Khem, the name for Egypt in the past. Their descendents were called the Shemsu-Hor, the followers of the way of Horus. Were they mortal men, or like the Neteru, were they considered to be part gods? And what was the great secret of power they protected?
In this bubble, Adam and Justin need help translating the mysterious hieroglyphics they found on the underside of the black scarab. They come up with a clever plan to get help from Laila, their Egyptian tour guide. They also learn more about the history of hieroglyphics and why the secrets of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics remained undiscovered until 1822, with the translation of the Rosetta Stone. Will they get found out? Or will Laila help them translate the secret message underneath the black scarab, a message that might explain why so many weird things have been happening...?
This amazing adventure began when I went to Egypt with my mom and my 2 young nephews, who were 10 and 12 at the time. We had an amazing time, although sadly we didn't have the incredible escapade that my young heroes Justin and Adam did - but it was enough to spark my imagination. When we got back home, I decided to write my nephews a short story, with them as the heroes, of course. The short story turned into a book; the book became a series and the adventures have continued. In this bubble you'll see how Adam believes so strongly that Egypt is a land of such magic and mystery that an adventure just has to happen. And he's right! The boys find out from their aunt that a famous archaeologist searching for the tomb of the Scarab King has gone missing. Added to that, a smuggling ring is making off with loads of Egypt's ancient treasures! Is it possible for the boys to investigate this?
This time Adam and Justin might not escape! Dr. Khalid's men have chased them into a recently excavated tomb in the Valley of the Kings. To escape detection, Adam crawls into a stone sarcophagus, while Justin hides in a wooden standing one. The men think the tomb is haunted so they run away. Unfortunately, the tomb also has another occupant - a giant cobra that is not pleased to see visitors.
By now, Justin and Adam's nemesis, the evil Dr. Khalid is after the cousins and their ancient scarab. It seems as if everywhere they go he had henchmen and associates ready to trip the cousins up and take the sacred scarab!
Continuing the adventure that ended in Britain just a short while ago, cousins Adam and Justin Sinclair, with their friend Kim Maleka, are now hunting for the third Stone of Power, one of seven mysterious stones lost centuries ago. The third stone might be located in an ancient city, hidden in the depths of the Mexican jungle.
When their small plane crashes in the jungle, Adam, Justin, Kim, and James are rescued by an uncontacted tribe. James, who is wounded, must stay behind as the kids, with only a young boy, Tukum, as their guide, make their way through the dense and dangerous jungle to find the city. River rafting on a crocodile-infested river and evading predators are just part of this hazardous task.
Of course, their old adversary Dr. Khalid is close behind as the kids press on in search of the lost city of stone gods. But he is not the worst of their problems. This time Adam will clash with a terrible enemy who adopts the persona of an evil Aztec god, Tezcatlipoca, and is keen to revive the ancient tradition of human sacrifice. Adam, Justin, and Tukum must play a dreadful ball game of life and death and maybe survive. Will they emerge alive from the jungle? Will Dr. Khalid find the third Stone of Power before they do?
Adam learns from the head of the uncontacted tribe about the two Aztec gods that war for supremacy - Tezcatlipoca the god of darkness, and Quetzalcoatl the god of light. Why are they important and who will win....?
Since the kids have crash landed in a real jungle (not a Disney movie set) imagine their total shock and astonishment in finding tribal people there. Is this possible? Are there still uncontacted tribes in jungles around the world? According to Survival International, the answer is yes. Around 100 uncontacted tribes still live in various jungles and avoid contact with the civilized world, moving deeper into the jungle as modern society encroaches upon their chosen way of life.
While we've all seen lots of movies where the heroes are stranded somewhere dangerous, what's it really like in real life? Movies give a different view - now the three kids experience the reality of the wild, with the heat, the animal sounds, the dense foliage, and no one to help them ... nowhere to go .... no means of getting back to civilization. Did I mention the apex predator?
This is the beginning of the third adventure for Adam, Justin and Kim in the quest for the Seven Stones of Power. This time, they know even less than they did on previous adventures because their archaeologist friend James wanted everything to be a big surprise. Well, surprise isn't the word. Maybe shock would be better. From this moment on, they are catapulted into a strange, hostile environment filled with wild animals, poisonous insects, and much danger. Can they keep their wits about them enough to survive?
