Becca has a special relationship with her grandfather. They both love to explore and discover their world. In this excerpt, we see the small changes from the magic flooding back into the world. Villagers have noticed the unusual weather, but only Becca and her grandfather appreciate the shift in themselves and in nature. This scene shows one of the creatures brought back into existence by the return of magic. Becca's wonder is shared with her grandfather and his acceptance of her allows the reader to see her through his eyes.
