Nightmares. Disappearances. Suicide.
Fall semester is always a challenging time at Miskatonic University. All Ellen Logan wants to do is pass her classes while holding down a bad job at a New Age bookstore.
But when a former roommate jumps to her death from the university clocktower and another friend vanishes, leaving her with a mysterious book, she embarks on her own investigation. With the help of renowned professor Andrew Carter, she uncovers evidence of a murderous cult, a terrifying creature, and a ghost who knows far too much about her. To survive, Ellen and Carter must descend into the Darkness Below to stop the forces that threaten to tear their world apart.
Summer is over and it’s time to head back to school. What better place to begin your higher education than the Ivy League of the Occult, Miskatonic University? This bubble serves not only as an introduction to the school but to the mystery that’s at the heart of Darkness Below. So strap on your backpacks, it’s the first day of class!
Horror with a heart. It’s something I aspire to when I write my books. For me, horror works best when characters matter to the reader. I work hard to bring them, and the world, to life. This excerpt, from the first novel in my series, Darkness Below, was a scene I added in response to comments from one of my beta readers. He loved the book’s opening moments, but he wanted a pause in the action. He wanted to take a breath while I told him more about the world I created. And what better place to do that than to set a scene in the New Age bookstore where my main character, Ellen Logan, worked? The humanity of this scene surprised me. I didn’t realize how emotional it was until I read it. It brought tears to my eyes. It was everything I hoped for and more. I hope you enjoy it.
Bodies falling from the sky, a serial killer on the loose, and endless bureaucracy.
Winter quarter has begun at Miskatonic University.
Ellen Logan wants nothing more than to join the school’s “special program”, but the administration refuses to admit her. Then there’s the charismatic celebrity who’s stalking her. A man who claims he’s a demon from another world.
When her friend is kidnapped, Ellen once again teams up with Professor Andrew Carter. Their investigations lead them to the site of a mysterious plane crash and an encounter that plunges her into the Dreamlands. With the help of new allies, Ellen must find a way to return to the real world where her friend’s life hangs in the balance.
My character, Ellen Logan, is always getting into trouble. It's part of being a paranormal investigator. In this excerpt from the second book in my series, Thin Places, a routine ghost hunting expedition goes terribly wrong when something else shows up. Something much worse than a ghost.
