The Last Order

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Lana forms a secret order of women knights to fulfill her father’s final request: find the queen who was thought to be dead and return her to the throne. Lana Crewe is a strong, fiercely driven seventeen year old living in a village ruled by fear. With their king and queen both dead, strife and division have taken hold. Ruthlessly attacked by an Order called Talons, Lana’s father is fatally stabbed. Before he dies, he imparts upon Lana a directive to save the statue of Saint Peter, and tells her that the queen yet lives. Now it is up to Lana to unravel the mystery of Saint Peter and bring an end to all of the war by finding the queen. A medieval tale of hope and mystery, The Last Order takes upper teenage angst and spins it on its head. You’ll be gripping this book as hard as it will be gripping you.

I picked an excerpt from Chapter 7 as a tease further into the story. I'm so thankful for everyone who has been supporting me. I hope you enjoy the beginning of this scene. The village was attacked and now the community is trying to agree on their next move.

Meet Silas

For the moment, Lana meets Silas she is weary of him. He speaks in riddles and defies the world they live in using science that others don't understand. Silas is endeared by readers flaws and all. "I loved Silas. He was secretive but amazing." -(books are love from Goodreads) "Silas is a good role model for boys with his wit, showing that being smart can be cool..." (Paula Tran for readers favorite) If you like a trickster who uses science and his wit, read The Last Order and meet Silas for yourself.

Women Warriors

Women are strong. Women can fight. Does that empower you or intimidate you? Just a quick Google search into the history of medieval times and female warriors will bring up lists and dates regarding the history of female warriors. The Bristish went as far as to prevent women from fighting. "590 CE – The Christian Synod of Druim Cett ordered that British women should no longer go into battle alongside their men. This ban probably had little effect, and traditions such as sword dancing which was taught by women remained." -quote from http://goo.gl/XRPnMj There will always be women ready to stand up and fight, and in The Last Order that's exactly what the women decide is necessary.

Smoke bombs??

The Last Order takes place in a medieval setting, and a few readers have questioned these bombs that show up in the book. Silas is a scientist of sorts who dabbles in inventing. A smoke bomb would have been possible in this time period with the proper knowledge and ingredients. Which Silas has. Fireworks had already been invented by the Chinese about 300 years before the beginning of the Medieval period. There isn't much imagination needed to stretch from fireworks to smoke bombs.
