At thirty-one years of age, Hakim had walked through the raging fires and cooled himself off with premium gasoline. Depression and anxiety had formed a pact with each relationship he brought himself into, creating a force that he could not withstand. Revealing his past to his therapist, he endeavored to find the reasons for why he continues to suffer. In order to create a bright future, he had to clear out the fog that surrounded him. His tales are told with details of each woman he courted, recalling upon the past to define reality. Elizabeth, his therapist, assists him in finding a solution and shares her wisdom to walk a new path. With each story, Hakim digs himself deeper, revealing his darkest thoughts that consume his soul. He eagerly yearns for answers, wanting to escape for the moment rather than to run free and wide. He ends the stories of painful encounters with a plan. As he replays the past, he finds his way out of an entangled mind and resides with peace. The journey may have been too harsh to overcome, but those who hold tightly onto hope will find their way. For every entrance, there is an exit, even if it means breaking down a wall or two.

In this scene, Hakim has a realization based on answering a simple question. Throughout the whole book, Hakim has been searching for reasons why his past was tragic. Now, he acknowledges his own philosophy that not everything happens for a reason and the reasons he is looking for don't exist.

Therapy Breakthrough

In this scene, Hakim is waiting for his therapist to deliver her ideas for him to get better. But she doesn't give him direct answers; instead, she instructs him on how he can find the answers himself. Exploration is a large part of discovering life and this is an experience that everybody should go through.

More than relationships

In this blurb, Hakim is learning how to build a relationship with his new group of students. Throughout the book, the focus has been on women. Here, he is learning the importance of social relationships. This scene emphasizes that even without a significant other, he can still feel valuable.

It's all about perspective

In this scene, Hakim doesn't see Becca as a woman to get intimate with. After maturing from his past relationships, he is able to admire beauty with a sharp look. His mind doesn't immediately think about intimacy and instead he can focus on building a foundation.
